This product recall has been undertaken in conjunction and cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”).
The product hazard triggering the underlying recall involves the bolts at the base of the product. The bolts used in securing the seats of these various, recalled highchairs to the pedestal base can become loose and allow the seat to detach, thereby posing a significant fall hazard.
This product recall was initiated on August 31, 2023 and it involves roughly 83,000 units (note that another 2,850 affected units were sold in the Canadian marketplace).
For product identification purposes, said recall implicates various Boon Flair highchairs with manufacture dates prior to September 2016, as well as all Boon Flair Elite highchairs. This recalled Flair Elite highchair was sold with white and orange molded plastic seats and white tray tables with a metal pedestal base. The Flair highchairs carry a gray, plastic pedestal base and were sold in multiple color combinations. The model numbers and manufacturing date codes are printed on a label located under the base of the highchair.
Consumers are urged to stop using these recalled highchairs immediately and contact the manufacturer for a free repair kit. Consumers will receive a set of bolts and split and flat washers to repair the recalled highchair. The manufacturer is in receipt of 34 reports from the field concerning the chair separating from the base, including 24 falls resulting in nearly a dozen injuries.
